  Notice the deterioration of the shingles in these three pictures.
   
  Moss growing on the south side of a roof can speed up the deterioration process of the shingles if left alone.
  Notice the holes in the channel. This isn't a sign for a whole new roof, but just a repair. This small problem can likely turn into a larger structural problem over time.
   
  This is a sign that your gutters are clogged, or you have some sort of drainage problem. After a while, buildup of leaves and mud will speed up the deterioration process.
